We love fried chicken, it's one of the nation's favourite takeaways with its truly irresistible tender chicken and golden, crispy batter. But its long preparation can be a little intimidating. If you're a fried chicken virgin this easy fried chicken recipe is the perfect place the start.

There's no marinating or waiting around, just slice the chicken breast in half, get it coated in egg and spiced flour and it's straight into the pan where we shallow fry for just 6 minutes. Shallowing frying is great for the first time fryer as you use half the oil, making it much less scary than a huge pan of hot oil.

Our Caesar dressing is also built for speed and ease as we use a fork, pasta bowl and good old fashioned muscle power to whip up the dressing in just 5 minutes. Meaning there's less washing up and more eating time!

This fried chicken caesar sandwich is truly delish and perfect for a special lunch or even a weeknight dinner.

  • 1 Tbsp.

    lemon juice

  • 1/2 tsp.

    dijon mustard

  • 80 ml

    sunflower oil

  • 1 Tbsp.

    parmesan, grated

  • a good grind of black pepper

For the fried chicken

  • 80 g

    plain flour

  • 1/2 tsp.

each garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, black pepper

  • 1

    chicken breast

  • 1

    egg beaten

  • 400 ml

    vegetable oil, for frying

To serve

  • bread of choice

  • romaine lettuce, roughly chopped

  • parmesan shavings

Directions

    1. Step 1 Start by making the dressing. Add the anchovies, garlic, egg yolk, dijon mustard and lemon juice to a bowl. Using a fork, whisk to combine, then slowly trickle in your oil whilst continuously mixing until thick.
    2. Step 2Add your parmesan and black pepper, stir through then set aside.
    3. Step 3For the chicken, add the flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin and black pepper to a bowl and stir to combine. Add your beaten egg to another bowl. Set aside.
    4. Step 4Slice your chicken breast length ways in half and dip each fillet in beaten egg. Let the excess drip off then dredge in your flour. Set aside.
    5. Step 5Add the oil to a frying pan and set over medium heat. Once a cube of bread sizzles and starts to brown it’s hot enough.
    6. Step 6Carefully add your chicken and cook for 6 minutes, turning over halfway through. Drain onto kitchen paper.
    7. Step 7To assemble, spread a tablespoon of dressing over the bread and top with the chicken. Toss your lettuce and parmesan in the dressing a set over your chicken. Close the sandwich and dive in.
