When the sun's out, there's nothing better than a spritzy cocktail. One that reminds us of summer holidays in Italy is a classic Limoncello number. We've kept this recipe really simple with just five ingredients (plus ice), and it takes less than five minutes to put together. Garnish with a slice of fresh lemon and some fresh basil for herby, Italian vibes and you've got yourself the perfect summer cocktail.

What is Limoncello?

Heaven in a bottle. No, really. Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur usually made with vodka and commonly found in the south of Italy. It's particularly popular as a digestif in places like Naples, the Amalfi Coast and Sicily. Amalfi lemons are famous for their flavour, so if you ever find yourself there you simply must try some local Limoncello.

What's in a Limoncello Spritz?

Typically, a Limoncello Spritz is made with Limoncello, Prosecco and soda water. These elements are usually combined over ice with a wedge of fresh lemon and sometimes herbs like mint or basil.

What are some other cocktails made with Prosecco?

There are loads of spritzes you can make with Prosecco, including the classic Aperol Spritz, as well as a Hugo Spritz.

What food goes with a Limoncello Spritz?

In Italy, you'll usually find Limoncello Spritzes served with salty snacks like olives, cured meats and other snacky bits.
