Ever since we visited Black Tap in New York City last year, we've joined the rest of the internet in being obsessed with the over-the-top drinks known as "freakshakes." So, on a recent trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, we couldn't resist checking out the Freakshakes at Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs. Disney Springs is the property's upscale shopping and dining area, and these shakes are definitely worth a break from the Magic Kingdom or Epcot.
The restaurant itself is a site to see. It recently underwent a full-scale renovation, transforming what was an Observatory themed location into a sleek space with a HUGE video screen dominating the dining room. There is also a terrace that overlooks the rest of Disney Springs, which is the perfect place to enjoy one of these shakes.
Planet Hollywood makes three flavors, all more colorful and more extreme than the next. There's the Strawberry Big Bang, a classic strawberry milkshake served in a glass that's decked out with white chocolate icing, sprinkles and white chocolate chips. The whole thing is topped with strawberry sauce, a unicorn lollipop and a slice of birthday cake.
The Cosmic Cotton Candy features a glass decorated with white chocolate icing, sprinkles, jelly beans and white chocolate pretzels. It's filled with a cotton candy-flavored shake that's covered with strawberry sauce, whipped cream, cotton candy and a "whirly" lollipop.
Finally, the most popular milkshake at Planet Hollywood is the Chocolate Comet — a chocolate shake served in a glass decorated with chocolate icing, mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, malt balls and mini M&Ms. The shake is topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, a Kit Kat, and pirouline sticks.
The shakes have quickly become fan favorites:
The restaurant says it sells about 5,000 of the shakes per month, and if you're going all out on a Disney vacation, your trip isn't complete without one.
