When it comes to summer hangs in New York, you're lucky if the night starts off at Gallow Green. Only open in the summertime, this mythic garden-inspired spot atop the Mikkitrick Hotel is perfect for balmy summer nights. Try the punch bowl!

With stunning views of the water and Lady Liberty off in the distance, the Harbor House is a must-stop spot for anyone spending summer in New York. See if you can snag a seat outside, and grab a few oyster shooters while you're at it.

Nothing says summer quite like a tiki bar. If you can't make it to the south Pacific, consider catching a flight to Jersey, instead. Martell's is a local favorite, but folks have been known to travel far and wide for summery drinks and good eats from the Lobster House next door.

The backyard at Berry Park is overrun by the hippest residents of Williamsburg on any given summer afternoon, but with beer steins this big, nobody seems to care. Perhaps the biggest draw at Berry Park is its weekly Backyard Party, where bar patrons can compete in a beer Olympics of sorts, featuring giant beer pong, Bocce, ladder ball, Cornhole, Giant Jenga, and more.  The party starts every Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. — just make sure you make an email reservation to compete.

Pretty views of the Manhattan skyline make scouting for a table at Northern Territory more than worth the wait. The rooftop bar is breezy and balmy on summer nights, but it plays second fiddle to Northern Territory's craft drinks and Australian (!!!) fare. Come by for a boozy brunch on the weekend and feast on the Bagel with Gravlax or the Aussie Burger. 

It's hard to explain a night at D'jais, especially if the night involves their signature Pool After Dark party. Spotty memories aside, D'jais is a seaside staple in Belmar and beyond — strobe lights, house music, pool floaties, and all. A word from the wise: Don't come unless you're ready to have a good time. City Winery's cool locale isn't the only thing it's got goin' on — it's also enthusiastically committed to keeping it local. With a smattering of locally brewed beers, local ingredients on the menu, and a tap system that cuts back on bottle waste, City Winery is a summer hang with a soft spot for sustainability. Post up on the patio for West Loop vibes and views of the river. 

If you want to drink on a rooftop but don't feel like being fussy about it, Brass Monkey might just be your new favorite spot. With laid-back, unpretentious vibes, fairly priced beers, and an incredible view of the Hudson River, this summer hot spot feels more like a neighborhood joint (with really incredible scenery). Flora-Bama is a Southern staple, a seaside institution, and pretty much everything that's right (and maybe a little bit wrong) with summer. Situated right along the Florida Keys coastline, Flora-Bama has welcomed travelers and regulars to its sandy digs since the '60s. And it seems the bar takes service pretty seriously; It even has its own mission statement.

The Monarch Rooftop is NYC summer swank at its finest. Picture business professional and cocktail attire, tiny drinks with heavy price tags, and a beautiful view of the summery Manhattan skyline -- including its crown jewel, The Empire State Building. Thanks to its see-and-be-seen crowd and live DJ, the luxurious spot gets pretty crowded on the weekends, but lunchtime offers a slightly slower pace (and delicious flatbread pizzas). 

Housed in a former gas station and mechanic shop in Brooklyn's South Slope neighborhood, Greenwood Park has everything thing you need for an afternoon of summer day-drinking. Picture lawn games, live music, an open-air, indoor-outdoor bar, over 60 beers on tap, and a menu of seasonal dishes. Their Brewed Outta Brooklyn beer event always draws a crowd, and of course, you've gotta try the Frozé (frozen rosé. Need I say more?).  

This German beer hall boasts no shortage of stuff to fill your stein with, and pretty nice beach views, to boot. Set right on the Jersey Shore, a cold beer in Ashbury Festhalle's beer garden offers the perfect reprieve from the summer heat. Stop by on the weekends when there's live music, and be sure to sample the sausages, too.
