1Upside Pizza, Garment District
Chelsea LupkinLook, I’m not thrilled to be near Times Square either, but the fact that I’m listing Upside Pizza means it’s worth the trek! The Sicilian has a gorgeous two-inch tall crust and a gorgeous sear on the bottom. Most importantly, though, is that this pizzeria is dripping in 90s nostalgia. The walls are just as neon as you remember and all of the posters feature only the best NYC athletes from the era (no Mets included for sad and obvious reasons). It’s a blast from the past and your parents aren’t there to tell you how much you can have, so eat away!
2The House of Pizza and Calzone, Red Hook
Chelsea LupkinI used to eat here every day after Little League. We lost every game, but we truly felt like winners because of how incredible this Sicilian slice is. Zero air bubbles in the dough means you get to eat one of the densest, cheesiest slices in the neighborhood. Paul DiAgostino bought the recipe from the original owners in order to maintain the same quality pizza that Red Hook has been enjoying since 1952. Their slogan is “Brooklyn as it used to be” and you’ll understand exactly what they mean after only one bite.

3DaVinci Pizzeria, Bensonhurst
Chelsea LupkinSince 1966, brothers Angelo and Antonio Gnerre have been churning out quality pizzas based on their father’s recipe. I asked Antonio what it is about pizza that people love so much. He said “It’s dough, sauce, and cheese. That’s it. But that combination? Perfect.” So go get yourself a Sicilian slice! Disagree with my picks? That makes sense! Everybody has different taste buds and life experiences so tell me what your favorite Sicilian slice is and I will then eat it and tell you that you are wrong and my three picks still reign supreme.
