Chick-fil-A is adding a new side that they hope will make you feel slightly better about scarfing down a greasy fried-chicken sandwich: Kale salads.
Their new "superfood side," which has hand-chopped kale and broccolini tossed in a maple vinaigrette dressing, marks the first time a fast-food joint has added kale to their regular menu, executives told Business Insider.
Last year, McDonalds tested out kale breakfast bowls in a handful of their California locations, but they never took the item nationwide.
Of course, Chick-fil-A isn't trading their 400-calorie waffle fries for their new healthy alternative … they're dropping cole slaw from the menu. And if you want to take the lighter route with your combo meal — swapping fries for kale — it'll cost you $.94. Or you can get it on its own: $2.59 for a 5-ounce serving or $3.79 for 8 ounces, according to Business Insider.
The chain is confident they'll have better luck with kale than McDonalds when they launch the side January 18. David Farmer, Chick-fil-A's vice president of menu strategy and development, told the site: "We have tested it in several markets, [and] gotten a big thumbs-up from customers and restaurant operators."
