In a not-at-all disputed claim, New Jersey recently announced itself as the bagel capital of the world. As a Jersey Girl, I gotta say, the state's got a point. There’s really nothing like an NJ bagel. O’Bagel in Hoboken has apparently been voted the top bagel shop in the state, which itself warrants a trip, but then I saw their Jumbo Bagels. This behemoth is a GIANT bagel weighing up to 30 pounds.
You can choose any topping you want, from their classic sandwiches like bacon, egg, and cheese, or one of their signature sandwiches. Their most popular option is the Ridge Diablo: It has scrambled eggs (up to 36!), ham, bacon, pepper jack, jalapeños, and chipotle aioli. Other sandwich options include the Watchung Warrior (pastrami, eggs, Swiss), the Scaly T (turkey bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato), and the Early Bird (turkey, egg whites, cucumbers).
O’Bagel began doing their Jumbos in 2017 to make catering fun. It’s still only available to order for catering and safe to say, it’s way cooler than any old bagel spread. It feeds 30 people and costs between $95-$135. Getting it right didn’t take a ton of time, but finding the right bake time and proportions to be able to produce around five a week took some tinkering.
Find it at O’Bagel in locations throughout NJ.
