Update, March 9, 2020 1:16 p.m.: After a looooong wait, we finally have some great news: Padma Lakshmi's upcoming Hulu show has a name! And a premiere date! This is a big day.
Padma announced in an Instagram post that her new show will be called Taste The Nation. The show will see Padma traveling the United States and meeting with people of different cultures to see what they eat and how they make it.
"We traveled across the country visiting indigenous and immigrant communities to find out what American food is today," she wrote in the post: "The process was incredibly emotional and rewarding, a journey I will never forget."
In a video, Padma also said that the show will be split up into 10 half-hour episodes and that she'll be visiting a different city in each.
“From indigenous communities to recent immigrant arrivals, Padma breaks bread with Americans across the nation to uncover the roots and relationship between our food, our humanity, and our history—ultimately revealing stories that challenge notions of identity, belonging, and what it means to be American,” the show's description reads, according to TVWeb.
The show will hit Hulu on June 19, so while we're likely to learn much more about the project (and see a trailer!) before it airs. I dunno about you, but this already has me excited to watch!
Original July 30, 2019 1:04 p.m. Padma Lakshmi is the definition of a woman with many talents—and a whole lot of energy. Turns out, the supermodel, author, and Top Chef host will be adding yet another accomplishment to her seriously impressive roster.
Hulu announced earlier this week that Lakshmi is slated to star in her own series for the streaming service. According to the release, the 10-episode series is currently without a title or a launch date. But we do know that Hulu Kitchen, a new food-focused vertical that will also feature Chrissy Teigen, wants the show to embody the essence of a “living cookbook.”
The 30-minute episodes will place an emphasis on the stories, people, and cultures that bring food to life, rather than the oh so classic recipe. Each episode will zero in on one specific dish, from top-rated restaurant meals and street food eats to modern-day approaches and recipes that have been passed down for generations.
Lakshmi will travel across the country and immerse herself in immigrant communities—delving into how cultures and cuisines have merged in America. Armed with her unique perspective, the Bravo star will explore how food transcends a community’s native history to their American roots and culture.
Lakshmi, an immigrant herself, took to Instagram to share her excitement with her 581K followers. “Creating this show with @hulu is my dream come true. I get to meet so many inspiring immigrants from around the country and explore their cultural/personal narratives through their food. 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏼💪🏻”
Celebs like Tan France showed their love for the soon-to-be Hulu star. “Congrats, Padma. So happy for you! 💛” We second that, Tan.
We’ll let you know when we have more details, but until then, you can find us watching Top Chef on repeat.
