Corn on the cob is a quintessential summer side, and we'd probably eat it nonstop—if it weren't for the hassle of shucking every single ear. Then, we saw a gif making its rounds on Facebook that made us feel like our corn-every-day-until-Labor-Day dreams could come true: Simply lop off the stem, then shake that sucker right out of its husk.

It seemed too good to be true.

But oh, how we wanted it to be true.

So, after eagerly buying armfuls of corn—and drooling over the thought of grilling 'em and topping them with these craveworthy spreads—we put it to the test. And tested it again. And again, until we threw out the cob...and learned that gif was missing one incredibly crucial step: Microwaving the corn for 3 minutes before slicing off the stem.

The corn will be hot to the touch, so watch out for your fingers, but it's much easier to slice through, and as you can see from the demonstration below, it actually works:

However, since your microwave can only hold so many ears at a time, this hack isn't really a timesaver if you're cooking for more than two people. Dang it.
