A lot of fun, outside-the-box, and sometimes totally weird products come across our desks here at Delish. Just last week, I found myself staring down a bottle of neon purple glittery vodka.
So when I opened a package containing a giant bag of Sriracha popcorn, I knew I had to conduct an office poll. Full disclosure: I would probably wax poetic about any food item containing Sriracha and since I am completely biased when it comes to rooster sauce (someone should really get me one of these keychains), I decided to ask a random sampling of people what they really thought about the spicy popcorn.
I took two brands of Sriracha popcorn around the office, Kettle Brand Popcorn's Sriracha flavor and Huy Fong Foods Inc., and I asked 35 people to answer one simple question: Delish, or not Delish? The consensus was: Delish. (Side note: It's amazing how much more popular you become once you utter the words, "Will you do me a favor and sample some free food?")
Unsurprisingly, a lot of people have a predetermined love for all-things Sriracha—"F*ckin' awesome" was a common sentiment—and some people are just excited about free snacks in general. "You're asking the wrong person; I think everything's Delish."
But the naysayers—and there were a couple—are worth quoting: "I can't tell if I love it or hate it." "I wouldn't buy it, but I would eat it if someone was giving it to me for free." "I love Sriracha, I just don't think I love it with popcorn."
One interesting takeaway from our first-ever "Delish, or Not Delish" poll was that people seemed to strongly prefer one brand over the other. (Technically, Kettle Brand won, but only by two votes.)
So should you buy Sriracha popcorn? We say, yes. But I'd say it's worth trying a few brands before you find the one that sets your heart on fire.
