Giving up alcohol doesn’t mean you can't enjoy a glass of wine every now and then—it just needs to be non-alcoholic wine. Forget sugary-sweet, non-alcoholic knock-offs that resemble doctored grape juice. The zero-proof wine market has come a long way in just a few years, and it's now ripe with interesting, complex options that promise to intrigue your palate just as much as their alcoholic counterparts.

Many of these crisp, light whites and bold, deep reds deliver flavor and aromatic notes just like any other glass of wine—except they do not contain alcohol. While you're shopping, make sure to check out the best stemless wine glasses, best foil cutters, and the best electric wine bottle openers.

Is there really no alcohol in non-alcoholic wine?

squiggle

Some of the sparkling wines on this list are carbonated, fruit-based drinks that never contained alcohol to begin with. But other bottlings are real-deal wines that have gone through a dealcoholization process that removes the alcohol that's in a regular bottle of wine. To do this, producers make a wine with all of the normal winemaking techniques, such as fermenting with yeast. At the very end of the process, alcohol is removed through methods like reverse osmosis or vacuum distillation. The resulting beverage still looks and tastes like wine, sans the boozy part.

Does non-alcoholic wine taste good?

squiggle

We think so! Even stripped of its inebriating qualities, high-end, zero-proof wines deliver the same tasting notes one might expect from one's favorite varieties, from oaky Cabernet Sauvignons to buttery Chardonnays. Plus, with non-alcoholic wines, everyone can join in on the toast—no matter their alcohol preferences. So pour yourself a glass and enjoy!
