Before you dive into that salad you bought at Trader Joe’s, do a quick check of the container. The popular grocery chain has issued a recall for certain packages of its Sesame Miso Salad with Salmon (SKU 77316) due to an undeclared milk allergen. The issue arose after approximately 500 units of the salad were mistakenly packaged with a sealed packet of Parmesan cheese crumbles instead of the expected crispy onions. This error was discovered during a quality assurance check.

Here's everything you need to know about the recall.

What products are being recalled?

According to the Food & Drug Administration, the recall applies to Trader Joe’s Sesame Miso Salad with Salmon products with Use By Dates of April 28, 2025 and April 29, 2025, sold in these states:

    • Alabama
    • Iowa
    • Illinois
    • Indiana
    • Kansas
    • Kentucky
    • Michigan
    • Minnesota
    • Missouri
    • North Carolina
    • Nebraska
    • New Jersey
    • New York
    • Ohio
    • Pennsylvania
    • South Carolina
    • Tennessee
    • Wisconsin

What is the exact reason for the recall?

The packages of salad do not disclose a milk allergen because it normally comes with packets of crispy onions. The recalled packages, however, could include packets of Parmesan cheese crumbles instead, which can be harmful to those allergic to milk.

What should I do if I have the recalled product?

If you purchased this product in the listed states and possess one of the recalled packages:

    • Do not consume it if you or someone in your household has a milk allergy or lactose intolerance.
    • You can either discard the salad safely or return it to your local Trader Joe's store for a full refund.
