It's a sad day for crafters: After filing for bankruptcy in March 2024, JOANN Fabric announced that they would be closing 500 locations. Now, after failing to find a buyer, the company has made it known that all 800 stores will close.
In a statement, JOANN said, "JOANN leadership, our Board, advisors and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business. We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders. We deeply appreciate our dedicated Team Members, our customers and communities across the nation for their unwavering support for more than 80 years."
The company listed an extensive FAQ on their website, answering key questions, including when going-out-of-business sales will begin and when the stores will close. With 800 locations nationwide, it will be a complicated process, but they explained that, in many locations, sales will begin immediately: "Subject to court approval of the sale transaction, we expect to begin, or in some cases continue, going-out-of-business sales at all locations immediately."
If you're wondering when your local store will close, the company advises you to check the app or website, but it is all subject to court approval. Shoppers can continue purchasing from the website until further notice.
Important note: If you have a gift card, you must use it before February 28. Also, stores will no longer be accepting returns.
