Update: Queen Elizabeth, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, died on September 8, 2022. The royal family released a statement on social media. "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

Original: Queen Elizabeth II is currently under medical supervision in her Scotland home, and most of her family has rushed to her bedside. But Kate Middleton is allegedly not among them according to Page Six, and while it must be devastating for the Duchess of Cambridge to have to miss such a trip, her absence has an understandable reason.

Yesterday, the Cambridges' three kiddos—George, Charlotte, and Louis—had an orientation of sorts at school, where they walked with their parents hand-in-hand to the building and met their headmaster.

Today marked their first official day of returning to the classroom after summer vacation, so Kate had to stay behind to see them off. This first day is significant because the kids started attending a new school this year after the Cambridges recently moved from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

This isn't out of the ordinary for what the royals expect, either. Despite earlier reports that both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had traveled to Scotland in order to be with the Queen, CNN later clarified that only Harry made this particular trip. This means both Kate and Meghan are not present with the British royals in Scotland right now.
