Superstar Cher covered the iconic Golden Girls theme song Thank You For Being a Friend in an Instagram clip shared over the weekend. The video showed the singer dressed in a classic tan blazer and black pants, performing the iconic song in her own unique way in honor of actress Betty White. The 36-second clip teased Cher’s part in the upcoming NBC special Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girl, which will air 1/31 at 10 p.m.

“Every friend is golden,” the 75-year-old superstar captioned her video. Cher also included in the caption, “Tune in @NBC Mon 1/31 10 p.m. ET 9 p.m. CT #CelebratingBettyWhite,” referring to the NBC special set to air tonight to honor the deceased icon. The singer posted the video clip to her Twitter account, too.

Cher performed the special cover from the Golden Girls Stage Five in Hollywood where the original Golden Girls was filmed, according to People. The song was originally written and recorded by Andrew Gold and a cover by Cynthia Fee was used as the theme song for the 1980s sitcom. The beloved show starred White alongside actresses Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, and Rue McClanahan.

The telecast event honoring White will include tributes from President Joe Biden, Drew Barrymore, Valerie Bertinelli, Goldie Hawn, Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Ted Danson, Ellen DeGeneres, Ana Gasteyer, Jean Smart, and more. Friends, fans, and co-stars will share memories, stories, and special moments in honor of the late actress. Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to watch never-before-seen footage of White in memory of her incredible life, according to the NBC press release.

White died at age 99 on New Year's Eve after suffering from a stroke. The actress was just weeks away from her 100th birthday, which she planned to celebrate with a special 100th birthday movie event. Now White will be honored by NBC via the special telecast, which is scheduled to air exactly one month after the celebrated actress passed.

Earlier this month White thanked fans for their love and support in a posthumous Instagram post, shared by her former assistant Kiersten Mikelas. “I just want to thank you all for your love and support over the years,” the legendary actress said in the video taken before her death on December 31 and posted on January 22. “Thank you so much, and stick around!”
