No matter the person/day/time, the facts are the facts: the quickest way to anyone's heart is through their stomach. Who doesn't love being cooked for, right? But what do you do if you're more beginner than sous chef? We've got you: All these beginner-friendly date night dinner recipes are a slight step above usual fare while still being totally achievable by even the most novice of home cooks. A tried-and-true recipe can really save the evening, and we're pretty sure all of these recipes (which include chicken, steak, and pasta dinners) will become your new favorite weekly staples. Get inspired with our list of 80 dinners for two—we know you’ll turn out something spectacular.

If you’re hoping to serve a meal to your boo, stick with something simple and classic, like pasta, stir-fries or easy proteins. Try our cacio e pepe, our vegetable curry, or our ground beef stir-fry teriyaki bowls—they’re all SUPER simple, with flavor that’s out-of-this-world good. For protein, you can’t beat chicken, like in our creamy feta and tomato chicken, our Marry Me chicken, or our butter chicken (way more special than ordering delivery), but we’ve also included less standard recipes with red meat or fish that will really impress. Try our dirty martini steak frites, our coconut curry salmon, or our miso farro salmon bowl for ideas. They’ve got all the sit-down steakhouse flavor without the price tag.

If you’re looking to make a night out of cooking dinner together (we highly recommend this date idea!), try one of our more involved recipes. Check out our homemade pizza, our dragon roll sushi, or our lobster ravioli for ideas. You’ll get to see your date’s fine motor skills at work, learn a new skill, and eat a delicious meal together (no matter how good or badly it turns out 😉).

The best part of these recipes? Leftovers. We know, we know, many of these recipes make 4 to 6 servings. You could halve them and have just enough for two, or do what we do and make extra!

Want more ideas for impressing your date? Try serving a fun cocktail or the perfect bottle of wine with your meal—check out our guides to both reds and whites. And don't forget about dessert!

In our houses (apartments), Sunday evening is synonymous with a roast chicken dinner. That means one has 52 chances to prove there’s always something new you can create with the humble chicken. In this case, the paprika-dusted chicken is roasted on a bed of herby, sliced red onions and whole garlic cloves until the onions are jammy sweet with a little char and the chicken is cooked through and juicy. Best of all, blending the chicken fat-roasted, charred onions with butter, sweet white vinegar, and crushed red pepper yields a creamy, umami-rich sauce that makes the chicken even more succulent.
