Thanksgiving dinner is one of the most notoriously heavy meals of the year. The classic dishes are carby, buttery, and super creamy. (And that's just the mashed potatoes!) As much as I love these foods — and oh do I love 'em — sometimes I crave something crunchy and fresh to break up all those heavy fall flavors.

Crudite is one of the easiest ways to bring something fresh to the table. It's always popular during cocktail hour since it's the perfect thing to munch on without ruining your appetite. I love serving it with a creamy, herb-y dip. For this crudite we combined cream cheese and sour cream with lemon juice, dill, chives, and parsley. Seasoned with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, you can whip it up in a food processor for perfect dip in a flash. If you don't feel like taking the virtuous route, I have a sneaking suspicion this dip would be great with potato chips.

As for the crudite part of this recipe, you can go pretty crazy making it your own. However, if you don't feel like being creative, you can follow our very easy template for an adorable veggie turkey. No matter what, I would suggest starting with a bed of lettuce because, well, it looks nice! Next, create a rainbow of tail feathers using your favorite veggies and finish with a little turkey face. Ours is the bottom of a bell pepper garnished with olive eyes, and a bell pepper beak and wattle. Super cute and a welcome reprieve from butter-filled dishes? We think it's a Thanksgiving must.
