This pie is a tart twist on a one of my all-time favorite desserts: apple pie! Cranberries add a bright freshness to the pie, helping balance the sweetness from the apples and adding a ton of flavor and color. The apples get even more tender and juicy thanks to a longer bake in the oven.
I used a combination of my favorite fall baking spices—cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg—which add so much warmth to this recipe. This is also proof of how beautiful a lattice crust can look even when kept a little rustic—I love how when the cranberries pop in the oven a the ruby red color bubbles up.
The crust itself is super flaky and tender, but holds up to the filling and doesn't get soggy. Thick apple slices are piled high, so I'll admit it's not super easy to cut a clean slice of this one. Messy plates aside, this will become a new holiday tradition because it just tastes that good. Ice cream highly recommended mandatory.
