Ready in under an hour, this treat is the perfect show-stopping addition to your Halloween spread that requires minimal time and effort. Thanks to puff pastry, basic baked brie is transformed into a spooky app in just 4 easy steps. Enjoy it as a Halloween app at your monster mash bash, as a post-trick-or-treating dinner accompaniment, or as a spooky snack for your next scary movie marathon.
How to make mummy brie:
While this appetizer may look impressive, it really couldn’t be easier to make. Instead of wrapping our brie in a full sheet of puff pastry (like in classic baked brie), we’re going to cut the puff pastry into 1” strips. Then, following your heart (or the video above), wrap and layer the strips around your brie to effectively “mummify” it. After brushing egg and milk over your pastry, you’ll bake until the brie is warmed through and the puff pastry is deeply golden—around 20 minutes.
While you can choose to stop there, we like adding eyes (made of sliced olives and peppers) to really amp up the spooky factor. Add them before or after baking—they’re really more for decoration. You can really swap the eyes out for anything; feel free to use candy if you’d prefer this brie to be more of a sweet treat. In that case, we think a little hot honey drizzled on top would be incredible too!
Serving.
We love serving this baked brie with crackers for easy sharing, but you can also serve alongside some toasted slices of a baguette to scoop your brie on top of. To amp up your presentation, you can also add some fruit or veggies to the tray.
