Ingredients
- 2 cups
all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup
unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 tsp.
baking powder
- 1/2 tsp.
kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp.
baking soda
- 1/2 cup
(1 stick) butter, softened
- 1 cup
granulated sugar
- 2
large eggs
- 1 Tbsp.
red food coloring
- 1 tsp.
pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup
black cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup
white sanding sugar
Directions
- Step 1Preheat oven to 350° and line 2 large baking sheets with parchment. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Step 2In a large bowl using a hand mixer, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, then add red food coloring and vanilla.
- Step 3In a small bowl, combine black cocoa powder and white sanding sugar.
- Step 4Roll about 1 tablespoon of dough into a ball, then roll in black cocoa powder. Repeat with remaining dough.
- Step 5Place dough on prepared baking sheets, about 1” apart. Bake until cookies have flattened and set in the middle, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on trays for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
