This cake might not look or sound like the most appetizing, but trust us—it tastes like heaven. Similar to the classic dirt pudding, this no-bake dessert is the shareable version we make for Halloween parties and birthdays alike. With an Oreo crust and a cream cheese pudding mixture, this dessert is not only simple and satisfying, but is the perfect base for any toppings you desire. Here’s what you need to know:
How to make dirt cake:
First, we create a homemade Oreo crust to layer our cream cheese pudding mixture on top of. After the crust and cake are created and layered, this dessert is as simple as topping with Oreos and refrigerating until chilled—at least 3 hours.
Decorating dirt cake:
Depending on the time of year and when you're serving this dessert, you can really get creative with your decorations! Leave it plain if you’re looking for a no-frills dessert, add on gummy worms for a classic Halloween treat, or borrow from our carrot patch brownies and make chocolate-covered strawberries that look like carrots!
Storage and make ahead.
Due to its long chill time, dirt cake is a perfect make-ahead dessert. Make it the day before, then chill overnight until you're ready to serve. If you have any cake leftover, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for around 4 days.
