With stay at home guidelines and social distancing keeping everyone at least 6 feet apart, celebrating Easter together this year is a little bit trickier. But these uncertain times don't necessarily make it impossible—it just means we need to be a little more creative.
Many of us will be joining virtual celebrations via platforms like Zoom or Facetime. (If you're using Zoom, we have the cutest Easter and Passover backgrounds you can download!) But what about the food?
To really feel connected with family from afar, we put together a simple DIY box that lets you send Easter right to your loved ones' doorstep. We're calling it 'Easter In A Box!' In this easy Easter cookie care package (say that ten times fast) is everything you need to make the most adorable and heartwarming dessert ever: Bunny Hug Cookies.
Supplies You'll Need
- 1 medium box
- 3 large jars that seal well
- Decorative ribbon
- Labels
- Gingerbread man cookie cutter (it doubles as a bunny cookie cutter!)
- Colorful Easter grass
Ingredients You'll Need
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 bag Cadbury Mini Eggs
Your care package recipient will need 2 sticks butter, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon milk.
Mix Dry Ingredients.
In a large jar, add 3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon kosher salt. Go ahead and give it a little stir, but it will also mix up in shipping! Tie a pretty ribbon around the jar and label this one 'dry ingredients'.
Measure Out The Sugar.
Pour 1 cup of granulated sugar into a second jar. Tie another ribbon around the jar and label this one 'sugar'.
Add The Mini Cadbury Eggs.
To turn these sugar cookies into bunny hugs we have their arms wrapped around a mini Cadbury egg. Fill a third jar with the chocolates, tie a ribbon around it, and label it 'Cadbury Eggs'.
Include A Gingerbread Cookie Cutter.
Add a gingerbread man cookie cutter with a little note that says to turn it upside down to make a bunny. The legs of the gingerbread will look like bunny ears!
Don't Forget The Baking Instructions.
We've created a cute download of the baking instructions for you to send in your care package so your loved ones will know exactly what to do.
Pack It All Up.
Fill your box with some Easter grass or other packing materials to keep your jars safe before placing them in the box. Cover the jars with more grass and add your cookie cutter and baking instructions on top. Throw in an Easter card, candy-filled eggs, or other goodies you want to send, then tape it up and send (or drop off) your box!
Someone is about to feel so loved.
