The holidays are a great time for wine-ing and dining, whether you're popping champagne on NYE or sipping mulled wine sangria alongside your Christmas roast. It's pretty much inevitable that your kitchen will be overflowing with empty wine bottles of every size and shape, especially if you're the designated holiday host. Or if you just think wine bottles are pretty and can't bear to throw them away.
The geniuses at Silver Oak Cellars put their empty wine bottles to good use, constructing a truly magical Christmas tree. Now, we've been making quite a few alternative (edible) trees this year, like this Oreo Christmas tree and these adorable Reese's trees. But we were pretty floored by Silver Oak's enormous, shimmering creation.
The wine bottle tree is a Silver Oak tradition (since 2008), and it's a little different every year. "The Silver Oak Bottle Tree was created as a fun way to engage our fans during their visit to Silver Oak over the holiday season," says Kathleen McLeod, Silver Oak director of marketing, retail and hospitality. "Over the years, it has taken on a life of its own, becoming one of the most photographed trees in the Napa Valley."
The trees stand around 16 feet tall and Silver Oak uses a custom wine rack to create a towering pine tree effect. The whole thing hold 576 bottles—plus a magnum as the "tree topper." That's a lot of Cab Sav—but since wine is good for you, drink up! Silver Oak used green and clear glass bottles to create a simple design, and a sprinkling of white string lights make this tree a super festive showstopper.
Silver Oak is a California winery with vineyards in Napa Valley and Alexander Valley and exclusively produces Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wine is described as "food-friendly" and "deliciously drinkable."
