Pizza that cooks in a minute flat probably conjures images of Totino's Party Pizzas and other toaster-oven wonders — which work for the Chuck E. Cheese (or late-night, post-drinking) crowd — but when you're craving something a little fancier, it doesn't cut it. That's why it's easy to overlook Uuni's portable pizza oven. It claims to cook a wood-fired, nonna-worthy pie in 60 seconds flat — and understandably, that seems too good to be true.
But it's quickly gathering a cult following for living up to the hype (spawning 1,567 Instagram posts with #uunified), and doing so for a fraction of the cost of the typical pizza oven.
BUY IT NOW: Uuni Pizza Oven, $299; Amazon
"I originally designed Uuni because I couldn't find a wood-fired oven for under $1,000," founder Kristian Tapaninaho said in a video for the appliance, which costs $299.
The sleek, small oven can fit on a typical outdoor table — it's just 19 inches long and 14 inches wide — but more impressive than its size is how it works. It uses wood pellets instead of traditional logs, and the pizza rests on a stone baking board inside the oven that gets incredibly hot, incredibly fast, giving the pizza a crisp crust and a bubbly top. It takes about 10 minutes to reach 932 degrees F, according to a press release.
Uuni, which means "pizza" in Finnish, is actually the result of a Kickstarter campaign Tapaninaho posted back in 2012. He set a goal of raising £7,500 — and more than doubled it, bringing in £17,136. Now, the oven's sold on Amazon, through Uuni.net, and BBQGuys.com, shipping to more than 60 countries worldwide.
