New York's known for cramped bars where finding a seat is as easy as hovering over someone until they feel uncomfortable enough to move (pro tip: mouth breathing always works). Not so at Clinton Hall, the restaurant and beer hall just blocks away from the Freedom Tower. The restaurant's sprawling, by NYC standards, and every aspect of the joint seems to underscore its 'go big or go home' mentality. There's supersized Jenga, a four-foot-long game of Connect Four, a burger challenge that requires you to down three beef patties, two whole buns, bacon and more (all in less than 25 minutes). Nothing, however, is more impressive than its lineup of waffles.
These aren't just any waffles. They're the freakshakes of waffles. In fact, when Black Tap's entire-slice-of-cake-topped milkshakes became an Internet sensation, the owners of Clinton Hall—who are friends with the Black Tap team—started thinking about their take on the super-indulgent trend, creating four towering stacks of waffles, loaded with all kinds of toppings.
The waffles shown in the video above are known as the "Peanut Butter and Jealous," probably because you can't see this super-stack of decadence pass your table without wishing it was headed your way. Three thick, fluffy waffles sandwich layers of Reese's Cups, Nutter Butters, vanilla ice cream, crushed Butterfingers, and—of course—peanut butter and jelly, creating a veritable mountain of sweets. Even the plate its served on gets tricked out, with an inch-wide coating of frosting around the edge, which is used to pile on crushed Oreos. Because serving such a dish on a plain platter would be like Pimp My Ride being all, "Nah, the factory rims are good enough for this boss SUV."
The foot-tall treats are pricier than your typical stack of waffles, but then again, these aren't any regular Eggos. Each order will set you back $15, which may seem shocking, until you notice the platter holds two full packages of Reese's cups, enough ice cream for two sundaes, and enough sugar to make an entire kindergarten class run amok.
Like the Backstreet Boys circa 2001 (to continue my dated pop culture references), these bad boys are larger than life—and Clinton Hall wouldn't have it any other way.
