Napa Winery Damage

The recent Bay-area earthquake is the largest the region has experienced in decades, and everyone is feeling the after effects, including the huge number of winemakers the area is known for — the region is home to more than 500 different vineyards.

As Grubstreet reports, the wine country is now riddled with storage rooms full of toppled barrels, burst bottles, structural damage to vineyards and warehouses, and other scenes of decimated wine businesses. Since many wines are aged — sometimes for years and years — before being ready to sell, the loss of so much inventory at once is hard to fathom, and really irreplaceable.

According to Market Watch, the losses across the region's industry as a whole could total over $1 billion. Wine Industry Insight started an online forum for those producers, distributors, and other industry folks affected by the 6.0-magnitude quake. Those seeking support or assistance can find it here.
