Things have been heating up between the Mets and Phillies, but it wasn't on the field — it was in their stomachs. Separately, Mets first basemen Lucas Duda and Philadelphia Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg, both reported feeling ill after allegedly eating burgers from Shake Shack. ESPN's Adam Rubin reported that Sandberg said since becoming ill, he's only eaten toast and lost six pounds. Others on the Phillies team who took bites of their Shake Shack burgers at CitiField thought that they may have been underdone. "A couple of coaches took a bite and didn't like what they saw and threw the rest away," Sandberg said. "I was in a rush so I ended up putting it away." As far as Duda, his burger reportedly did not come from the CitiField Shake Shack, but another location. Duda was hospitalized from the food poisoning and missed the game against the Phillies Friday night, but managed to play on Saturday.
Shake Shack is on the case and had this to say: "We take every guest concern of any sort seriously, and as such reached out to Ryne Sandberg to get more information since we have not heard from him. We stand by our food quality 100 percent." We hope this matter will be resolved before our next Shake Shack burger at CitiField!
