We have to admit, we're not too surprised to hear that ranch is the most popular dressing in America. According to NPR's food blog The Salt, The NPD Group recently reported that the dressing is the number one variety shipped to cafeterias, restaurants, and other institutions.
Amazingly, ranch has double the sales and shipments of blue cheese, it's closest rival (if you can even call it a rivalry). Apparently the NPD Group has dubbed ranch "the Swiss Army knife" of salad dressings, even though the sauce could definitely be considered a wider-range condiment at this point.
And it's even possible that ranch will eventually become the "new ketchup." Most impressive is the fact that, "ranch dressing sales are growing in an otherwise flat category."
