zillion dollar grilled cheese
deca at the Ritz Carlton Chicago

Grilled cheese is one of those universal foods that pretty much everyone loves. And the great thing about the humble sandwich is that it's extremely cheap to make — bread, cheese, a pat of butter, and you're good to go. But, according to DNAinfo, the Chicago Ritz-Carlton's restaurant, called deca, is looking to change all that. For the month of April, which also happens to be National Grilled Cheese month, deca is offering customers a special Zillion Dollar Grilled Cheese sandwich featuring all kinds of high-priced ingredients.

The sandwich starts with artisan country sourdough bread cooked in $30 olive oil with free-range black Iberico ham. For the cheese part of this crazy sandwich, the chef uses 40-year aged Wsiconsin cheddar infused with 24K gold flakes. Next come the heirloom tomatoes, 100-year-old aged balsamic vinegar, and Oregon Perigord white truffle aioli. To finish off the sandwich, it is topped with Hudson Valley Foie Gras and a sunny side up duck egg. And, oh yeah, there's a whole order of lobster mac & cheese on the side.

Would you pay $100 for a grilled cheese?
