Chicken

The USDA has given the green-light to four companies in China that will begin processing chickens slaughtered in the U.S. According to the New York Times, the chickens in question will be raised and slaughtered in the U.S. and then sent to China for processing. They will then be cooked in some capacity and sent back to America for consumption. Aside from the completely astonishing carbon footprint created by this "chicken dance," many are taking issue with the fact that the USDA will not have any control over or attempt to monitor the process that will take place in China. Instead the chickens will simply have to pass USDA regulations once back in U.S. While some fear that the lack of oversight will lead to food safety issues or potential for "fowl" play, others are concerned that this new approval is a step towards the U.S. simply allowing Chinese-raised chickens to be sold and consumed in America.
