Apparently, Gatorade drinkers simply don't care if their beverage is "natural" or not. According to the Associated Press, PepsiCo is getting rid of its line of natural Gatorade products due to lack of consumer interest. The special drinks touted the same benefits of regular Gatorade, but achieved through natural ingredients like sea salt. PepsiCo attributed the discontinuation to lack of interest from athletes. Based on, "engagement with athletes on their fueling needs, we found that Gatorade Naturals and G2 Naturals did not resonate with this core consumer," wrote the company in a statement. Another explanation for scrapping the product could be issues that PepsiCo has had with branding and marketing its foodstuff with the term "natural." They had to pay a hefty settlement and remove the phrase "all natural" from its Naked juices due to legal action last year.
