For months now, Starbucks has been building up momentum around a digital pre-order system that would allow people to place their coffee orders before arriving at a physical Starbucks locations. This would potentially result in speedier service, avoiding lines and, of course, satisfaction of being able to get what you want, when you want it.

Finally, "after a successful soft test," Starbucks is moving forward with the buzzed-about feature. According to Eater, the app will allow Starbucks loyals to pay for exactly what they want ahead of time, so they can be in, out, and on their way to the office (or spin class) again in no time. The coffee giant is even going to experiment with new ways to improve the shelf life of hot coffee drinks, so those who pre-order won't get stuck with lukewarm beverages.

This isn't Starbucks first foray into the digital age — the chain's app already allows customers to pay without ever exchanging cash, and some locations will soon have charging stations so your phone can get re-energized as you do.
