It's one thing to make a judgment call about meat in your fridge that's only slightly past its expiration date, but it's another thing altogether when an eatery decides for you. According to Reuters, some McDonald's, KFC, and Pizza Hut locations in China served customers meat that was a year past its expiration date. Shanghai Husi Food Co., a meat supplier that works with all three chains, was caught on tape mixing expired and fresh meat and also used meat that had been dropped on the floor.

McDonald's and Yum Brands Inc. immediately stopped using Shanghai Husi Food Co. after a TV report aired showing the supplier's complete disregard for food safety standards. Both brands also apologized to consumers and promised to do better in the future. "We will not tolerate any violations of government laws and regulations from our suppliers," stated Yum China representatives. This isn't the first time that fast food giants have had food safety issues in China. After this latest issue all three brands are bound to experience a lack of trust from customers.

What would it take for you to trust an eatery again after a scandal of this magnitude?
