There are many reasons your flight might get delayed: weather, mechanical issues, air traffic, a sandwich. Yes, you read that right — recently a flight from Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Pakistan, to New York City (via Manchester) was delayed for two-and-a-half hours so the pilot could get a sandwich.

According to The Nation, the PIA flight had a lunch menu set (peanuts, chips, and biscuits), but it didn't appeal to Flight Captain Noushad, who asked for a sandwich instead. The paper reported: "The [catering] staff told [Captain Noushad] that sandwiches could only be arranged by placing an order to a five-star hotel in the city, which would take more than two hours. The captain remained adamant about his demand and said no matter how much time it would take and that he needed sandwiches at any cost."

Although management at the PIA head office allegedly approved the schedule-busting sandwich order, a spokesperson from the airline told The Nation following the incident that management ordered an investigation and would follow up.
