Cronuts
Dominique Ansel/Facebook

Cronuts have been a hot news topic for weeks now. The new sweet, a cross between donuts and croissants, has been trademarked, sold via black market on Craiglist, and is being copied by bakeries around the globe under other names like doissant. However, one chef says that she is the true inventor of the cronut and she came up with the idea months ago. According to
Grub Street, Texas chef Najat Kaanache says that she has been serving cronuts on her menu since February. A Morning News critic that reviewed one of her restaurants confirms the news — there was in fact a dish called cronuts on the menu. But the actual food itself was nothing like the version being served at Dominique Ansel's. What does this mean for the trademark? Only time will tell.
