Nutella fans can stop their tortuous Ferrero boycotts because World Nutella Day has been saved! Ferrero has backed off of its cease-and-desist order that threatened to put an end to a super fan's World Nutella Day creation.

According to The Huffington Post, Ferrero will no longer force Sara Rosso (creator of World Nutella Day) to shut down the website and social media pages surrounding the "holiday." Rosso said that Ferrero finally reached out to her personally: "They appreciate me as a fan, and the site will continue to live on moving forward."

Ferrero released the following statement to the Italian press concerning the cease-and-desist letter: "A positive contact between Ferrero and Sara Rosso, owner of the non-official fan page called World Nutella Day, closed the case. Ferrero wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Sara Rosso for her passion for Nutella, a gratitude it extends to all the fans of the Nutella World Day."

The problem originally emerged from a "routine procedure in defense of trademarks, activated following improper use of the Nutella trademark within the fan page," explains the company. But once the situation was made clear, "we immediately interrupted any time of action. Ferrero considers itself lucky to have such a devoted and loyal fan as Sara Rosso."'

Rosso received the cease-and-desist letter from Ferrero in April. It told her to stop using the Nutella brand and logo. While Ferrero has called the entire set of events a misunderstanding, it seems more likely that Ferrero changed its mind due to the enormous public outcry caused by the cease-and-desist letter. The letter quickly became part of the world news cycle and even diehard Nutella fans wanted to boycott Ferrero in response. People posted support for Sara Rosso on her website and social media platforms.

Many commentors on our previous Delish.com article explaining that World Nutella Day was being forced to shut down stated that they would boycott Nutella until the day was reinstated. Others were shocked that Ferrero would punish Rosso for basically providing a free marketing campaign for Nutella. It seems the outraged fans around the world truly made a difference because World Nutella Day lives on!

Despite the legal issues she has faced over the last couple of months, Rosso says she still loves the spread. She will continue to run World Nutella Day on February 5 each year, but, per an agreement with the company, Rosso must make it clear that the holiday is not run by Ferrero.

Will you celebrate World Nutella Day next year?
