In the latest installment of Criminals Do the Craziest Things, we find a cartel trying to smuggle millions of dollars worth of weed — in watermelons. According to Fox News, the melons weren't actual fruit, but were packages painted to look (very much!) like watermelons instead.
But the clever cannabis cover didn't fool U.S. Customs and Border Patrol authorities in Tucson, who x-rayed the trailer's contents at a checkpoint just outside the city and arrested the driver for smuggling the shipment from Mexico.
Apparently, it's not the first time someone has attempted to move weed in watermelons: In 2010, agents discovered 5,000 pounds of marijuana hidden among real watermelons, worth approximately $83 million. What's next? Mary Jane mangoes?
