New Pepsi Bottle
PepsiCo

For the first time in almost 20 years, Pepsi is making a big change. If you're a fan of the soda, don't worry. It's not the recipe that's changing — it's the shape of the bottle.

According to the Associated Press, Pepsi's sleek new bottle is supposedly easier to grip because of a contoured bottom. The label is also smaller, allowing more of the soda to show through. Twenty-ounce and 16-ounce bottles will adopt the new shape. Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, and Pepsi Next will all receive the bottle makeover.

The new shape will begin to roll out in April, with a complete replacement of the current bottles, which date back to 1996, estimated to occur within a year. The new shape will first appear in New York, then Chicago, California, and Florida. PepsiCo says the new look is part of an overarching effort to update its marketing and packaging.

The New York Daily News reports that PepsiCo is attempting to find a more consistent image for its brand. The ultimate goal is to "create a brand-recognizable bottle shape," which Coca-Cola has successfully done in the past.

Pepsi isn't the only brand that has gone through a makeover or two. In fact, most sodas that have survived the test of time have changed their packaging drastically since their early days. Check out some images of past and present soda bottles below.
