The wait for Nestlé

Girl Scout Candy Bar
Girl Scouts/Nesté Crunch

Crunch Girl Scout Cookie Candy Bars is
almost over. That's right, the cookie-inspired bars make their debut on
June 1st. And with the big day closing in, there's one question that is
probably eating away at Girl Scout Cookie fans everywhere. Well, maybe two
questions: Are the new candy bars good? And more importantly, do they actually
taste like their cookie counterparts?

When the Delish.com team got the chance to sample the new
candy bars, we knew what we had to do — find some Girl Scout Cookies ASAP.
Luckily, we happened to have some of the cookies that the candy bar flavors
were based on (Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Samoas) stashed for a rainy day. We
tried each cookie with its accompanying candy bar to see how the bars measured
up and then ranked the bars based on how closely they matched the flavor of the
cookies.

The verdict? Well, it seems that The Girl Scouts know how to
step outside their cookie comfort zone. The
bars are good. As far as a normal candy bar goes, the Girl Scout bars could
compete with the best of them. However, this candy had some serious
expectations to live up to.

So how did they compare to the flavor and texture of their cookie
counterparts? Pretty well, for the most part. Here are the rankings with the
closest bar-cookie match first:

1. Thin Mint and Thin Mint: The Thin Mint candy bar is
uncannily close in flavor to that of its cookie equivalent. The bar got the
chocolate-to-mint ratio just right and was crunchy too. Although the candy
version was slightly crunchier than the cookie and had a thicker chocolate
coating, the Thin Mint bar is definitely a success.

2. Caramel & Coconut and Samoas: Strangely the Samoas and
Tagalongs in candy bar form had different names, despite having a picture of
the cookie on the candy wrapper. Names aside, the Caramel & Coconut bar was
another success, flavor-wise. But some would argue that it's the texture of Samoas that makes them really special.
The individual pieces of coconut and the chewy caramel were missed when eating
the candy bar, which was crunchy and unfortunately does not contain coconut
pieces or enough caramel. However, if it's just that familiar flavor you're after,
then this bar certaintly does the job.

3. Peanut Butter Crèmeand
Tagalongs:
Peanut Butter Crème was slightly less like Tagalongs than the other
flavors were to their cookie inspirations. The bar certainly had nice peanut
butter flavor, but lacked the overall creaminess of the cookie. What is similar
in both cases is the strong peanut butter taste, which muddles, but does not
overwhelm, the chocolate.

Overall the Nestlé Crunch Girl Scout Cookie Candy Bars
accomplish the extremely difficult task of transferring cherished cookies flavors into Crunch bars.
While the Girl Scouts sell non-edible cookie paraphernalia such as
scratch-and-sniff stickers and cookie-flavored Lip Smackers chapstick, these
are the only food items that have been created to mimic the reputable treats.

Which flavor of Nestlé Crunch Girl Scout Cookie Candy Bars
do you want to try? Would you rather buy the bars or the cookies?
