You've heard of fried Oreos, fried Mars bars, and fried Coke, but fried Kool-Aid? Charlie Boghosian — the owner of Chicken Charlie's who has invented more than 100 original deep-fried items, including fried Pop Tarts and Klondike bars — debuted his fried Cherry Kool-Aid doughnut holes at the San Diego County Fair last Friday.

To make the sweet concoction, Boghosian blends flour, water, and cherry Kool-Aid mix. The batter is scooped and dropped into extremely hot oil then fried until it is lightly browned with a crisp outer layer. The fried Kool-Aid resembles Dunkin' Donuts Munchkins, but with a distinct taste of your childhood. Which is exactly what inspired Boghosian. "We drank Kool-Aid growing up, so I thought, why not fry it and see what happens?" Boghosian told ABC News.

At opening weekend, Boghosian sold 1,800 orders; at five a pop, that totaled 9,000 treats. He told Sign On San Diego that required 150 pounds of Kool-Aid.

The doughy novelty is sweeping the nation, via Twitter of course, with people begging that the treats come to a fair near them. Hopefully Boghosian will give the people what they want and broker a deal with a national doughnut chain so we can all get a bite. Or else, my friends, head west to San Diego, where the County Fair runs through Monday, July 4.
