Starbucks is all about efficiency these days. First they
implemented a simplified logo and now an easier way to load yourself with
enough caffeine to kick-start an elephant's morning. Starbucks has announced (drum roll, please) the Trenta! A thirty-one-ounce cup that boasts eleven more ounces than it's little sister the
Venti, the previously reigning monarch of the coffee world, and can satisfy even the most jaded of caffeine-addicts./p>

The Trenta (it means thirty in Italian, we guess the
"Trentuno" just wasn't catchy enough) was conceived after Starbucks began receiving
demands for larger cold drinks. Perhaps this was due to the ballooning of
drinks in other establishments. 7-11 has their "Super Big Gulp," which tops out
at 40 ounces (a step down from where it started at 44 ounces) and McDonald's,
though they no longer supersize their products, serves their large drinks in
thirty-two ounce cups. Their large sweet-tea sells for only a dollar. If that
is what people have become accustomed to then it makes sense that a measly 20-ounce
Venti wouldn't satisfy their liquid cravings. (It should be noted that
McDonald's coffees top out at 17-ounces, which is coincidentally about the
average size of an adult human bladder. The Trenta, also coincidentally, holds
as much liquid as the average human stomach.)

The new size will be available in 14 states including
Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Texas and Arizona starting today. They will premier
in California on February 1st and nationwide on May 3rd. The
Trenta will only be available for iced coffee and tea drinks - sorry, no
buckets of Frappuccinos yet, kids. They will cost only $.50 more than Venti
versions of the same drinks ($3.30 for an iced coffee and $2.60 for an iced
tea) and top out 230 calories.

What do you think about the Trenta? Will it become your
usual?
