Foster Farms chicken is now responsible for an additional 50 cases of Salmonella Heidelberg poisoning, bringing the total number people who have been stricken with the foodborne bacteria to 574.
According to Food Safety News, the CDC 's update has occurances in 27 states. However, 77 percent of the cases were reported in California. The most recent 50 cases were reported from California (42), Arizona (1), Georgia (1), Montana (1), Nevada (1), Oregon (1), Texas (1), and Utah (2). There have been an average of 8 cases reported per week since the outbreak began in March of 2013, though the CDC says those reports are "slowing down". Of those, 13 percent have developed blood infections and 37 percent have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
