Everyone loves Sriracha, so much in fact that the condiment
has its own festival. But neighbors of the rooster sauce factory are not happy with Huy Fong Foods because of an extremely foul smelling chili odor that emanates from its Southern California factory. According to the Associated Press, the city of Irwindale is suing Huy Fong Foods, calling the smell a "public nuisance." Apparently residents have had to flee their homes to escape the stench and others have dealt more severe symptoms like burning eyes, irritated throats, and headaches.
The city and Huy Fong attempted to settle the issue without legal action, however that plan didn't work after the Sriracha company claimed that there was no smell and their employees never complained about an odor. "If they fix it and the odor problems stop, we don't need this order; but so far the odor complaints continue," stated Irwindale City Attorney Fred Galante.
