5 Things Lady Gaga Did To Get In Shape For The Super Bowl

No, she wasn't born this way — it took some serious work to get that stamina.

Anyone who's ever taken a phone call on the treadmill knows that it's hard to talk while your heart rate's up, let alone sing while dancing in 3-inch heels and leaping Spider-Man-style off of rooftops (even if it's more of an illusion). Lady Gaga did it all during her 13-minute Super Bowl halftime performance — and without ever pausing for a timeout, or a "hold up, I need a sip of water and maybe a nap for the next two hours" moment. As you can imagine, tackling it all took some serious work.

1

She Had A 'Good Luck Diet.'

In the months leading up to the Super Bowl, Lady Gaga took Mariah Carey's lead and stuck to eating just two things — albeit two very different things than the Mariah's World star: Champagne and sushi. According to a Life & Style report, this was Gaga's "good luck diet," but it could also be the "Born This Way" star (or a source claimed to be very close to Gaga) trolling us all.

After fainting while touring in 2016, Gaga follows a pretty strict, healthy diet, choreographer LaurieAnn Gibson told People. "It's all about salsa with grain chips, tofu, turkey slices, hummus and coconut water," she said. Notice no mention of crunchy tuna rolls or bubbly. Hmmm.

She Went Cardio-Crazy.

Maintaining her stamina throughout the set — and all of the gravity-defying stunts it required — meant working out nonstop in the weeks leading up to the big game. Cardio was a huge part of that, or specifically, Versaclimbing (think: A Stair Stepper that works your upper and lower body) while singing. "I'm singing the show while I do it, because the show is full-on cardio," she explained to Good Morning America's Michael Strahan.

She Got Into Strength Training, Too.

Part of Gaga's workout routine involved TRX Training, which leverages your body weight instead of lifting dumbbells, and apparently, that sometimes meant doing so in full Atelier Versace. Because it's way more breathable than a meat dress, obviously.

She Allowed The Occasional Coffee Break.

You know the drill: Everything in moderation, right? That holds true even for a singer known for her extreme performances. Gaga Instagrammed a coffee break (courtesy of a $20 gift from her Grandma) at Starbucks the month before the Bowl, and Gibson said they'd often toast with a glass of white wine before shows during her world tour. Proof living la vida Gaga doesn't have to be as strict as, say, Whole30 or doing Dry January.

She Had Fun With It.

Gaga didn't log all of her exercise in the gym. She's made it part of her overall lifestyle, incorporating regular horse rides, doing toe-touches outside of her trailer, resistance-band routines in the backyard, and some classic cartwheels with her mom into her day-to-day routine.
