At 3 p.m. EDT on April 12, 2008, official records indicate that cheesemongers at 176 Whole Foods Markets across the country simultaneously cracked nearly 300 wheels of precious Parmigiano-Reggiano. Customers were treated to samples from the 85-pound wheels, which yielded endless shards of the venerated, crystal-flecked Italian cheese.
