Even though Popeyes has been making waves in the fast food scene for the past 50 years, this week marks the first time the beloved chicken chain has released its own signature sauce. Formulated to seamlessly enhance the signature spice blend found in the hand-battered fried chicken, Popeyes' new Signature Sauce brings the heat in the best way possible. Not only that, but it took the brand five years to develop, ensuring that it complemented Popeyes' already stellar reputation. Here's what you can expect when dunking, dipping, or slathering your next order in the sauce:
The sauce is pleasantly spicy—it contains just the right amount of kick. According to the restaurant, the new signature sauce is "inspired by the brand's New Orleans roots" and features bell pepper, celery, onion, garlic, and a dash of hot sauce. It definitely has some fire, a bit of smokiness, and makes for a great accompaniment to many of the chain's menu staples.
But this spice-adverse gal could handle it. It kept me coming back for more, even after I was already full. Perhaps best of all, the sauce packaging is larger than other dipping sauces available at the chain, which makes for easier dipping and ensures you get a substantial portion size to accompany your meal.
Along with the sauce, Popeyes launched a limited-time offering—Chicken Dippers. These thin strips of all-white meat are hand-battered in Popeyes' signature Louisiana garlic and spice blend and seem like the chain's take on Burger King's chicken fries. At $4.99, they are smaller than chicken strips and easy to share, making them a great side or app. They're tasty dunked in the new signature sauce, and equally mouthwatering when dipped in Popeyes' Wild Honey Mustard. Sadly, the dippers are only here for a limited time, so scoop them up while you can.
While the Chicken Dippers won't be on the menu permanently, I'm psyched that the saucy newcomer is here to stay. Sadly, it's not available by the bottle yet, but luckily for us, the chain sells some of its other popular dipping sauces for you to take home. Well done, Popeyes.
