A cold fountain soda might quench your thirst, but on a hot day, a frosted soda can be even better. But what exactly is a frosted soda, and why are you seeing it all over social media?

A frosted soda is a combination of Chick-fil-A's Icedream, a vanilla-flavored frozen dairy treat, and soda. The beverage is made just like Chick-fil-A's official frosted drinks, but frosted sodas aren't actually on the menu. The trend grew after customers took to social media to share videos of their frosted sodas, made with anything from Hi-C and Coke to Dr. Pepper.

Commenters on @whoslulugirl_2's TikTok were quick to respond that not all Chick-fil-A's will make them. "I very confidently tried to order this at my CFA and was quickly turned down," said one person.

"I worked at CFA and we weren’t allowed to do this at my location [because] the carbonation and the blender," said another user.

Where To Get A Chick-fil-A Frosted Soda

So, how do you get one of these refreshing creations? It might not be so easy. According to the Chick-fil-A website, Frosted Lemonade, Frosted Coffee, and other seasonal frosted drinks are available on the menu nationwide, but frosted drinks made with other beverages—like frosted sodas—are only available on a "restuarant-by-restaurant basis."

Naturally, we called around to many Chick-fil-A locations in New York City, and had no luck finding one that makes frosted sodas.

The History Of Chick-fil-A Frosted Beverages

The original Frosted Lemonade was first released in 2015, according to Nation's Restaurant News. And shortly after, Frosted Coffee made its way to the menu. Over the years, seasonal frosted beverages have been offered for a limited time, such as Frosted Watermelon Mint Lemonade and Mango Passion Frosted Lemonade.

While frosted sodas might seem like a new secret menu item, they're actually not a new phenomenon. There are posts on Reddit about Chick-fil-A's off-menu item dating back to 2021.

Where To Get Other Frosted Drinks

If you can't seem to find a Chick-fil-A that will make frosted soda for you, you can always make your own. Simply order a soda and an Icedream and mix them together. Of course, this won't be quite the same as a hand-spun frosted beverage, but it'll have the same ingredients.

You can also check out other restaurants that offer frozen drinks. Dairy Queen sells a Misty Freeze, which is a Misty slush flavor blended with vanilla soft serve. And there are plenty of spots where it's easy to customize drinks or order secret menu items, like Sonic and Starbucks.
