It's not uncommon for people to attempt to find the secret to living their lives to the fullest for as long as they possibly can, especially when the answer to the question involves food. And, as it turns out, the secret to living a long and healthy life might lie in two foods you probably already consume regularly: Beer and chips.
Okay, so that's not actually a fact, but according to an 100-year-old woman named Matilda Curcia, possible that a nightly helping of beer and potato chips may be the key to a longer life. The California resident celebrated her 100th birthday with her best friend this past week, before sharing her secret to living longer with NBC San Diego.
"I've experienced good health," she said. "I have no pain and do my exercises every day. And have my beer. Eat my potato chips. That's about all."
What a legend. Scientists have been researching which foods have the power to extend our lifespans for quite some time now, and so far, many have shown that unexpected health benefits lie in foods like coffee and hot peppers. A few recent studies have also linked alcohol with a long life as well. According to Time, a 2017 study found that light and moderate drinkers were less likely to die from heart disease than non-drinkers, while a 2015 study of people with mild Alzheimer's found that of all the subjects, mild drinkers were less likely to die than non-drinkers.The jury is still out on the health benefits of potato chips, but we'll still go ahead and take Curcia's word for it and peacefully enjoy our potato chips until we can't anymore.
