Chris Pratt is starring in a Super Bowl ad for Michelob Ultra this year—and he did the viewing audience a favor by doing so shirtless. In the ad, called "The Perfect Fit," Pratt goes over the top to train for an appearance in a Michelob Ultra ad, including going on runs, lifting teeny tiny weights so he can pick up a beer bottle, and hitting the gym to get in action-hero shape for the part. The problem? He ends up just being an extra in the commercial.
Pratt showing off his muscles in a beer commercial is an unexpected choice, since his character, Andy, explained away his weight loss on Parks and Recreation by saying he simply stopped drinking beer—and that helped him lose 50 pounds in just one month. "How much beer were you drinking?" Ben asks Andy. "I know, right? Probably too much," Andy responds. (In reality, Pratt had lost the weight to star in Guardians of the Galaxy.)
But it turns out that fitness is kind of the whole point of the ad. Michelob Ultra is a light beer, and the idea is to show that you can still drink beer while staying physically active. They'll also be running a second Super Bowl ad, called "I Like Beer," featuring Pratt plus other top athletes making that very argument.
Pratt cleared things up in a press release for the beer brand. "These days, I'm trying to stay in top shape for work. So when I see a beer I can't help but squint my eyes and imagine a treadmill. Specifically how long I'll have to be on that treadmill to burn off the beer," he said in the statement. "Michelob Ultra has only 95 calories and 2.6 carbs so… I can run that off very easily. Probably in like 10 seconds? (I run 85 mph) Which really makes you wonder why I'm not playing IN the Super Bowl. I know."
