As if we didn't love Disney already... now there's even MORE to get excited about! This weekend at Disney's D23 EXPO, fans got exciting news about the plans set to take place over the next couple of years at Walt Disney Parks Resorts. See all the major additions — we're counting down the minutes until we can experience them!
Superhero Universe
For those lucky Southern California residents, Disney's California Adventure Park will be adding to its already popular Guardians of the Galaxy ride, Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! The ride just opened in May 2017 and will soon be joined by Spider-Man and the Avengers in a complete Marvel Super Hero immersive universe. The rest of the specifics are TBD.
Pixar Pier
Coming in 2018, Disney California's Adventure Park will be bringing your favorite Pixar characters to life with the all new Pixar Pier. Guests will get to step into their favorite stories of The Incredibles, Inside Out, Toy Story, and more. To launch this addition, Disney will be having a limited-time celebration at Disneyland Resort in 2018, called Pixar Fest, that'll include a firework spectacular and a Pixar Parade.
Toy Story Land
You may have seen it coming, but now it's been officially announced that Toy Story Land will open in summer of 2018. Construction is already underway at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. In the expansion, visitors will be able to explore Andy's backyard and ride the two new themed-attractions: Slinky Dog Dash, a family coaster, and the Alien Swirling Saucers, a ride inspired from the first Toy Story film.
Disney Skyliner
Get a bird's-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando on the all new Disney Skyliner. The transportation system will connect between Disney's Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean Beach, along with other locations to Disney's Hollywood Studio's and Epcot.
Star Wars-Themed Resort
Guest interaction is going to reach a whole new level when the Star Wars-themed resort opens in Walt Disney World. There aren't many details except that the resort will debut as a new Disney 360 vacation concept. Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said, "It's unlike anything that exists today. From the second you arrive, you'll become a part of a Star Wars story!"
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the official name of the Star Wars-inspired lands at both Disneyland Resorts and Walt Disney World Resort, is expected to open in 2019. The lands will immerse fans in the Star Wars universe and include two major attractions. While in the land, guests will encounter all their favorite characters from the franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy and Ratatouille Rides
Set to open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021, a Guardians of the Galaxy and a Ratatouille ride are coming to Epcot. The Guardians of the Galaxy ride will be taking over the Universe of Energy attraction in Future World (ride concept not yet determined).
The Ratatouille ride will be added to the France Pavilion in World Showcase at Epcot. Guests will become the size of Remy and try to make it across the kitchen while encountering all the sights, sounds, and smells at the legendary Gusteau's Parisian Restaurant.
As one of the highest-rated attractions at Shanghai Disneyland, it makes perfect sense to bring this thrilling ride to Walt Disney World Resorts in time for the 50th anniversary in 2021. The coaster-style addition will be be built right next to Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom. See what the Shanghai one looks like here.
